Strawberry Mojitos FAQs
White or light, rum is the classic choice, but if you want to use dark rum in its place, you can.
You can use whatever you have or you can find, but bear in mind fresh strawberries and fresh lime juice do result in a fresher tasting drink.
Ernest Hemingway is credited with how popular mojitos are. While he was in Cuba, this was Hemingway’s drink of choice. After that it appeared in a James Bond movie and a Depp movie. It’s believed this cocktail might have started as a “medicinal” beverage. Early versions used moonshine, adding sugarcane syrup, lime and mint to ward off illnesses. Whether this was a real local belief or just a good reason to sip a mojito is disputed!
