Substitutions and Variations

Chocolate chips: Use dark chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips in place of the semi-sweet ones. You might need a little more freezing time if you’re using milk chocolate chips.
Another flavor: A few drops of vanilla extract would be good in these.

Serving Suggestions

For dessert: 3 Musketeers bites are great after a meal of garlic parmesan steak tortellini or baked gnocchi Bolognese.
As a dessert topping: Top your next egg custard pie or mango mousse with chopped 3 Musketeers bites to add a contrasting flavor. You can also add whipped topping for a Cool Whip candy topped dessert (for a special occasion!)
As a sweet snack: Pair the homemade treats with anything from a Dalgona coffee to a glass of state fair style lemonade.

How to Store Chocolate Marshmallow Bites

Store: Keep 3 Musketeers bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator and eat within 2 weeks. Keep them stored in a single layer in an airtight container or Ziploc bag. If you need to stack them, it’s best to separate each layer with a sheet of wax or parchment paper so they don’t all stick together.
Freeze: You can freeze these in an airtight container for up to 2 months.
Thaw: Defrost it in the refrigerator overnight or at room temperature for an hour or so.

Top Tips

Use a silicone spatula: This is the best utensil to fold the marshmallow fluff and melted chocolate together, if you have one. You want to minimize how much marshmallow fluff sticks to the utensil you’re using to stir the ingredients.
Keeping their shape: Your bites will lose shape a little bit as they chill, but chilling them in the freezer will help minimize that. After the chocolate has set you can store your bites in the fridge or freezer to hold their shape and prevent melting.
Work fast! You’ll want to work quickly once you remove the marshmallow mixture from the freezer. The mixture won’t stay firm for very long. If your marshmallow pieces get too soft to work with, immediately return them for the freezer for 30 minutes before continuing. You can always re-melt chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds if it starts to set in the bowl.

3 Musketeers Bites FAQs

What’s the best way to dip the marshmallow mixture into the melted chocolate?

The easiest way to cover these bites in chocolate is to drop each one in the melts chocolate and then spoon the chocolate over them. After that you can spoon the bite out with a fork and scrape off the excess chocolate on the side of the bowl. When you lower the marshmallow bite into the chocolate on a fork it can take too long to coat the bite in chocolate, causing the bite to get too soft. If that happens then you will have your bowl will be a messy mix of marshmallow and chocolate before you finish dipping the bites.

Can I serve these frozen?

I actually love these frozen! They don’t have a caramel layer to set rock-hard and break your teeth, so you can enjoy them direct from the freezer if you choose.
