Smoothie Freezer Packs – DIY Meal Prep

Smoothie freezer packs are so time-saving. You can make a bunch of frozen smoothie bags ahead and then simply grab one to make a fresh smoothie whenever you want. DIY meal prep has never been so easy. This make ahead smoothie mix is a lifesaver on busy mornings. Nothing is easier than pulling a homemade smoothie pack from the freezer.

Food blogger, Bella Bucchiotti of xoxoBella, shares a DIY meal prep with smoothie freezer packs. You will love these frozen smoothie bags with fresh fruit.

Not everyone has a lot of time to make breakfast from scratch every day. But perhaps you want something healthier than toast or cereal. This is where a ready to blend smoothie will be your new best friend in the morning.

You can put any fruits you want in a homemade smoothie pack. Whip up a batch of make ahead smoothie mix and you can grab one and make it into a smoothie in just minutes.

How to Make Frozen Smoothie Bags

It’s so simple to prepare pre-packaged smoothie freezer bags ahead. Buy plenty of fruit and then wash it, chop it and freeze in separate Ziploc bags. One of my favourite combos is with raspberries and blueberries as well as strawberries and banana. Any kinds of fruit will work including peaches, melon, apple, cherries, blackberries, and more. You can personalize your healthy frozen smoothie packs with anything you like or have on hand.

You can add other ingredients to these fruity ready to blend smoothie packs. too. Consider spinach, kale, protein powder, or dried fruits like dates or figs. Mix and match different kinds of fruits in each bag to keep things interesting, grabbing one at random in the morning.

Alternatively you might find a favourite blend and make some of those. It’s totally up to you and you can make the smoothie freezer packs however you like.

Frozen fruit works as well as fresh so you might like to buy boxed chopped frozen fruit and divide that between Ziploc bags. Maybe some peaches, some mixed berries and half a banana, for example.

Boxed frozen fruit can also work out cheaper than fresh and you can stock up because it keeps for months. Your only limit here is the space in your freezer!

How to Use Make Ahead Smoothie Mix

This ready to blend smoothie can be paired with milk, water or juice in the blender. Any of these liquids would work or you could try something different like almond milk or part soy milk and part coconut milk, for example.

Once everything is combined it’s ready to drink. You can serve this over ice if you want it extra-cold but usually the fact the fruit is frozen makes it cold enough already.

If you’re in a real rush, you can pour it into a travel mug and sip it on the way to work. You don’t have to thaw the ingredients before blending. They will break up into tiny pieces and give you a chilled, refreshing fruit smoothie.

It’s well worth making this homemade smoothie pack. This nutrient-packed drink should keep you full until lunchtime. If you don’t have a lot of time in the morning (or you oversleep) a homemade smoothie pack can be a real lifesaver!

Don’t Forget Breakfast When Meal Prepping

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However you feel about that statement, a good breakfast always starts the day on a happy note. Fruit smoothies using a ready to blend smoothie mix are a great option. Grab the make ahead smoothie mix out of the freezer and add it a blender with milk, water or juice for a minute. Then it’s all ready to enjoy!

Meal prep of course also applies to lunches, snacks and dinners. A lot of people like to devote a few hours to preparing batches of meals to enjoy throughout the week. With a few meal prep tips, anyone can do this!

When making smoothie freezer packs, you can make as many as you like because they literally keep for months. They make a delicious breakfast or you could have one as a nutritious snack whenever you want a vitamin top-up.

What’s the Ratio of Fruit to Juice or Milk?

For a good consistency, I like to use a cup of fruit in each of the frozen smoothie bags. When I’m ready to make the smoothie, I add a cup of fruit to half a cup of liquid.

Now some fruits (such as watermelon for example) have a very high water content. Others (such as banana) have a low water content. So you might find you need less or more liquid when making the smoothies depending which fruits you are using and depending how thick or thin you prefer your breakfast smoothies.

Of course if you’re making two at once, you could freeze 2 cups of fruit per Ziploc bag or reusable bag. I really like Stasher bags for freezing. Another idea is to do that anyway, then you can enjoy one smoothie for breakfast and save the rest to enjoy later in the day. Keep it refrigerated.

You are going to love how much easier these smoothie freezer packs make your busy mornings! A frozen smoothie mix will streamline your morning routine.
