Creamy Matcha Latte with Lavender Ingredients
A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.
Lavender syrup: Although you can buy this ingredient, it’s also easy to make with dried lavender. (I like to make my own lavender syrup! )
Matcha: Japanese green tea. Use something high quality for the smoothest flavor.
Water: Filtered water is the purest, cleanest-tasting choice, but if your tap water tastes okay you can use that.
Oat milk: A delicate-tasting milk that froths up really well.
How to Make Hot Lavender Matcha Latte
For more detailed instructions with weights and measurements, jump to the printable recipe card.
Prepare the matcha: Whisk the matcha powder with hot water until it dissolves. Use an up and down motion with the whisk to create tiny bubbles.
Make the lavender foam: Combine the milk and lavender syrup with a milk frother.
Assemble the drink: Pour the hot matcha mixture into a mug or cup and pour the frothed lavender milk on top. Serve immediately.
Substitutions and Variations
Oat milk: Oak milk has a light, delicate flavor and froths well, but feel free to use another type of milk, dairy or nondairy, or a combination of heavy whipping cream and milk.
Lavender syrup: Use another flavored syrup if you prefer, such as rose, orange, vanilla or even plain simple syrup.
Make it sweeter: You can add some sugar to the matcha mixture if you like, although the lavender foam is sweetened so that might be enough.
Iced version: Instead of serving it warm, you can make an iced lavender matcha latte by pouring the mixture over ice in a tall glass.
Lavender cream foam: Substitute lavender syrup flavored whipped cream instead. You can add some purple food coloring too for a more vivid color.
Serving Suggestions
With something sweet: Enjoy your iced matcha latte with blueberry muffins, egg custard pie or carrot cake cookies.
With something savory: It would also pair with something savory, perhaps garlic cheese twists or Starbucks copycat egg bites.
How to Store Matcha Latte
Store: This drink is best served immediately, so only make as much as you need.
Freeze: I don’t recommend that you freeze it.
Top Tips
Water temperature: Hot water at 140°F works best. This is hot enough for the matcha to dissolve but not so hot it scorches it or negatively impacts the flavor.
Use a bamboo whisk: I prefer a bamboo whisk over a plastic whisk for matcha. It helps mix the matcha better and you won’t end up with a grainy texture.
Use high quality matcha: Choose something good quality for the best flavor. There are plenty of high-quality ceremonial matcha powders to choose from.
