How to Make Mummy Hot Dogs
For more detailed instructions with weights and measurements, jump to the printable recipe card.
Dry the hot dogs: Pat them with paper towels to remove moisture.
Prepare the dough: Roll out the crescent dough and seal the seams.
Cut the strips: Slice the dough into ¼ inch wide pieces.
Wrap the mummies: Criss-cross the dough strips around each hot dog, leaving a space for eyes.
Bake until golden: Place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake until golden.
Add the eyes: Use mustard to stick candy eyes onto each mummy.

Substitutions and Variations
Use a different dough: Swap the crescent dough for puff pastry strips. Biscuit dough would also work in this Halloween party recipe. Just flatten it and then roll it out using your rolling pin, then cut it into strips with a pizza cutter.
Make it gluten free: Use gluten free crescent dough or wrap in gluten free tortilla strips.
Add cheese: Wrap a slice of cheese around the hot dog before the dough for extra flavor.
Use veggie dogs: A great option for vegetarian or plant-based versions.

Serving Suggestions
With savory Halloween snacks: Enjoy spider pizza and skull potatoes.
With sweet treats: Pair them with leftover candy brownies, Halloween bark, Halloween Rice Krispie treats, pots de creme and boozy dirt cups
With drinks or shots: Try vampire kiss jello shots or a black magic cocktail.

Top Tips
Seal the seams: Pinch the crescent dough well so it doesn’t separate during baking.
Don’t wrap too tightly: Let the dough expand a bit so the hot dogs bake evenly.
Add eyes after baking: The candy eyes will melt if added too soon.
Serve warm: These taste best right out of the oven.

Mummy Halloween Hot Dogs FAQs
You can make them a little ahead of time, since they’re also good at room temperature or even cold. Or you can prepare them up to 2 days in advance. Simply arrange them on a baking sheet then wrap the whole thing in plastic wrap and bake when ready. If you want to bake them ahead, that’s also fine – they will keep for 3 days, refrigerated in an airtight container.
Definitely! And that makes sense if you have other Halloween dinner snacks in the main oven. They will take somewhere around 7 minutes at 330°F.

Mummy Halloween Hot Dogs Recipe

Mummy Halloween Hot Dogs
Equipment
- Sharp Knife or Pizza Cutter
Ingredients
- 8 hot dogs, or wieners
- 8 Ounces crescent dough, refrigerated, I used Pillsbury
- 16 candy eyes
- 1 Tablespoon mustard
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Remove all moisture from the hot dogs with paper towels. Set these aside.
- Roll out the crescent dough and pinch together perforated seams. Use a pizza cutter or knife to slice the dough into ¼ inch strips. The length of the strips is not important.
- Take the strips of dough and wrap them around the wieners. Try to criss-cross a little, but do not overlap too many layers or they will not bake properly. Make sure you leave a little space uncovered to add the eyes later.
- Space the mummies out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure they're not too crowded. Bake them for 8 to 10 minutes until golden.
- Use a small amount of mustard (or ketchup) to attach the candy eyes.
Notes
Don’t wrap too tightly: Let the dough expand a bit so the hot dogs bake evenly.
Add eyes after baking: The candy eyes will melt if added too soon.
Serve warm: These taste best right out of the oven.

My family loved this recipe so much!! I’ll make this again soon!
I tried this yesterday even if it’s not halloween and my kids loved it! So good! 👌
I made these and OMG they were so easy! They look professional in your pictures and even mine came out looking food (and I don’t cook much!) I used beef hot dogs because I like that better than pork and then I used Grey Poupon mustard for mine. And yum yum!!
These are just adorable!
