How to Store Soup Mix in a Jar
Store: Your soup mix will keep for a very long time if you keep the jar sealed and keep it in the pantry or somewhere similarly dark and dry. Over time, some of the flavors might mute a little but soup mixes tend to stay usable for a year – or maybe more!

Top Tips
Layering the ingredients: I like to layer the ingredients to make the soup mixes look pretty, typically layering the main ingredient first and then adding spices and other ingredients in layers to contrast the colors. It all gets emptied into the pot anyway so you might as well have fun making pretty layers!
Equipment you need: You are going to need 1-pint wide mouth mason jars, butcher’s twine, a printer, and the free soup mix printable labels.
Stocking up: If you’re stocking up on homemade soup mixes for your pantry rather than making them as gifts, feel free to save time by writing the ingredients and steps on sticky labels rather than printing tags and tying them on with twine.
Homemade Soup Mix FAQs
You can add anything you want in there as long as it’s either naturally dry, or it’s been dried or freeze-dried. Don’t add anything that has moisture in it because then the soup mix will spoil in a few days. So, anything fresh you want in your soup you’ll need to add when actually making the soup.
Dried ingredients keep for a long time, as long as you keep them in a tightly closed container somewhere dry and dark. The pantry is ideal. These soup mixes will be fine for months, maybe even a year or more!
