Substitutions and Variations

Another protein: Sub shredded turkey or pork for the chicken.
Vegetarian version: Swap the chicken bouillon cube for a vegetable bouillon cube, and the chicken for your preferred vegetarian protein.
Different veggies: You can use any kind of frozen veggies or fresh ones if you prefer (you might need to adjust the cooking time if you’re using fresh ones). One diced carrot, some chopped onions and a handful of peas would be good.
Not an egg noodle fan? You can use any kind of noodles or pasta shapes.
Serving Suggestions

As a snack: It’s also good served with homemade rosemary crackers.
As a main meal: Enjoy this soup with an iceberg wedge salad or green goddess salad.
Drink pairing: Whip up a mouthwatering Italian cream soda.
How to Store Chicken Noodle Soup Mix
Store: Your soup mix will keep for a long time if you have the jar tightly closed and keep it in the pantry or another dark, dry place. Over time, some of the flavors will become muted but it’ll stay usable for a year – or maybe more!
Top Tips
Increase shelf life: Add an oxygen absorber (you can get those here) to the chicken noodle soup mix in the jar to extend its shelf life. Oxygen absorbers are those small packages that say “do not eat” on them. They work by absorbing oxygen and moisture, helping to prevent mold and spoilage.
Get everything you need: Before you start, make sure you have printable labels, a quart-size narrow mouth mason jar and some butcher’s twine.
Label the jar: It’s important to label the jar with the soup mix ingredients and instructions to make the soup at a later date.
Gift-giving: These make adorable and handy gifts! So, make some extra for friends and family who like homemade soup.
Chicken Noodle Soup in a Jar FAQs
Although wide mouth mason jars are often used for soup mixes, you won’t be able to fit all the ingredients and the egg noodles in a pint jar, so either use a quart-size narrow mouth jar or use a wide mouth one but only add about 1½ cups of egg noodles.
You can include anything you want as long as it’s either dried or freeze-dried. Don’t add anything that has moisture because it will spoil in a few days. So, anything fresh you want in your chicken noodle soup shouldn’t be added until you’re cooking it. I sometimes add bean soup mix, dried split peas or dehydrated vegetables.
