Vampire Kiss Jello Shots Ingredients

A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

Cherry jello: Adds sweet fruit flavor and vibrant red color.
Hot water: Helps dissolve the gelatin fully.
Fireball cinnamon whiskey: Provides tangy warmth and alcoholic kick. Fireball is a combination of Canadian whisky, sweeteners and cinnamon flavoring. It’s been around since the 1980s and wasn’t really known outside Canada for the first few years.
Cold water: Dilutes the mixture to the proper jell‑o consistency.
Black gel food dye: Turns the second layer inky black for contrast.

Fireball whisky, cherry Jell-O, apples, and a syringe in a glass bowl on a wooden table make the perfect vampire blood jello shooter—one of the best Halloween party ideas.

Top Tips

Fill shot cups only partially: This helps prevent spills and makes lids fit securely. It’s easiest to pour the jello mixture directly from the measuring cup into the shot cups, since you’re using it anyway.
Use a measuring cup to pour: It helps minimize mess and makes layering precise.
Let the red layer set first: Pour the black layer only after the red is fully firm.
Push lids in firmly: This prevents leaks if you transport the shots.

Vampire Kiss Jello Shot FAQs

Can I use liquid food dye instead of gel?

Yes but gel provides stronger colour with less additional liquid.

Can I prep these a day ahead?

Yes you can chill them so they are ready to serve the next day.

Will adding too much Fireball prevent the jello from setting?

Yes alcohol reduces gelatin strength, so do not exceed the recommended amount. I wouldn’t add more than ¾ cup of liquor to your shots.

Recipe looks great but I have a few questions, can I use a different liquor? (planning to make a lot and want different liquor options) Do these make your mouth black because of food coloring?

    1. Hi James, you only need a couple of drops of the black food dye, as a little goes a long way. Since these are jello shots that you pretty much just tip into your mouth and swallow, they shouldn’t make your mouth black at all. As for the liquor, I used Fireball cinnamon whiskey because I love the warming flavor (and had half a bottle to use up!) but anything should work here. Dark colored liquors might make the red layer a darker red. Experiment with anything you want – vodka, Bacardi, gin etc (or even liquor-free ones for the kids or those who don’t drink?)

These are so fun! I made these last year for a Halloween party and I’m making these again for the next one. The Fireball whiskey with cherry is so good!

  3. Made these last year and ready to make them again this Halloween. Hands down the BEST JELLO SHOTS! II love the fireball in it

The black and red layers look sexy and Halloweeny! I had to order cinnamon whiskey online because they don’t have Fireball where I live, but it was worth it. These will get any Halloween party started on a high note. I used black food color gel and found I only needed a couple of tiny drops – don’t add too much at once when you make these Halloween jello shots!

      1. If the colour doesn’t look the way that you want, add a bit more food colouring. The “matte” look is from the container it is in if I am understanding your question correctly.
