Serving Suggestions

With Mexican food: Enjoy it with chicken taco lettuce wraps or add it to your 5-layer taco dip. You could pair it with shrimp ceviche.
With other recipes: Serve mango salsa with a pecan butter board or charcuterie board to add fruity, spicy flavors. It’s also good with roasted chicken, steamed or grilled fish or with rosemary crackers and cheese.
As a sauce: Puree it and enjoy as a sauce with fish or chicken.

How to Store Mango Salsa

Store: Keep the mango salsa refrigerated in a covered container and use within 3 days. It tastes best freshly made though.
Freeze: I don’t recommend freezing the salsa because the texture wouldn’t be good after thawing.

Top Tips

Use ripe mango: A soft, fragrant mango gives the best flavor and texture.
Chop evenly: Small, uniform pieces make the salsa easy to eat and scoop.
Let it rest: A short rest time helps all the flavors come together.
Perfectly spiced: If you aren’t sure how much chili to add, add half a chili pepper at a time. It’s easy enough to add more.
In a rush? You can quickly chop the ingredients roughly in a food processor instead of dicing them.

Fresh Mango Salsa FAQs

How can I tell if a mango is ripe?

There’s only one way to test your mango for ripeness and that’s to give it a squeeze. If it’s rock hard, it’s not ripe and won’t be good in this recipe. If it has a moderate amount of “give” then it’s ripe and will be perfect.

What can I do with leftover mango?

If you have fruit left over after making this summer salsa recipe with mangoes, there are plenty of uses for them. Add mangoes to your breakfast cereal, make a fruit salad or enjoy them with vanilla ice cream. You can add chopped mango to salads and desserts or even enjoy it by itself for a sweet treat.
