Gluten-free option: If you want a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour instead of wheat flour and gluten-free chocolate chips. Oats are naturally gluten-free but check for a “gluten-free” label as some are processed in a facility that also processes gluten-containing products.
Chocolate chips: Use dark chocolate, milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, or even white chocolate chips. Or a mixture! You could even swap some out for peanut butter chips or butterscotch chips.
Make them nutty: Add chopped pecans, walnuts or hazelnuts to your oatmeal cookies for some crunch.
Serving Suggestions
As part of brunch: Pair your sheet pan eggs and bacon or your breakfast burritos with something sweet, namely these chocolate chip cookies.
As a snack: They’re so good with a tall glass of milk or state fair style lemonade, and also delicious paired with coffee.
For gifting: There are lots of homemade gifts to choose from like orange bath bombs and homemade birdseed ornaments. Why not gift this oatmeal chocolate chip cookie mix in a jar too? Everyone (who loves cookies) will love it!
How to Store Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Store: Keep the cookie mix in a jar somewhere cool and dark for up to 6 months.
Freeze: There’s no need to freeze it (although you can freeze the baked cookies if you want!)
Top Tips
A dry cookie mix: Because this is a cookie mix in a jar, it will seem dry at first when you mix the ingredients, so keep stirring everything together until the dough combines properly.
Pack the sugar down: When you add the brown sugar, pack it down with the back of a spoon to make enough room for the rest of the ingredients.
Use brown and white sugar: This adds depth of flavor to the cookies and the brown sugar gives a subtle caramel taste.
Reusable mason jar lids: I used the reusable Mason jar lids to elevate this cookie mix for gift giving. The reusable lids are great to have once you finish the cookie mix (I used these!)
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie FAQs
As long as you keep it somewhere dark and cool, it should keep for up to 6 months. If you added nuts, it will only keep for up to 3 months.
Sure! You can make as many jars of the home baked cookies mixture as you want. As long as you have enough mason jars and lids, enough ingredients and enough labels and twine, you’re good to go!
