Halloween Spider Pizza Ingredients

A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

All purpose flour: Forms the base and structure of the dough.
Warm water: Activates the yeast and binds the ingredients.
Active dry yeast: Makes the dough rise for a fluffy crust.
Activated charcoal powder: Creates the striking black color. Make sure you buy food grade activated charcoal, not the charcoal briquettes you use on the grill!
Olive oil: Adds moisture and elasticity to the dough.
Granulated sugar: Feeds the yeast and helps the dough rise.
Sauce and toppings: These are completely up to you. I like to use tomato sauce and then add shredded cheese and sliced rounds of cheese topped with “olive spiders”.  I like to add pepperoni to mine too. The spiders are easy to make. Just put a black olive half in the middle of a round of cheese then cut the other half into legs and press those on too.

Top Tips

Knead gently: Dough should be elastic but not tough, so don’t over-knead.
Adjust moisture: Add flour if too sticky or olive oil if too dry.
Charcoal mixing: Stir charcoal in slowly to prevent clumping.
Creative toppings: Try black olive spiders for extra Halloween fun.
Mix slowly: Charcoal powder is super fine, so make sure you mix it in slowly.
Make black olive spiders: A fun topping to add for Halloween is black olive spiders! You can make these by slicing black olives lengthwise and using a half for the body, then slicing the other half into little legs.

When I was learning to cook I accidentally made a pizza that looked just like this (well without the spiders) and that was definitely an oops moment! Your recipe intrigued me so I made it and it was really good. I love pizza and always add different toppings. This is so good for Halloween and you can’t taste the charcoal. It’s funny because it looks like it’s been cremated and tastes perfect! Happy Halloween from us here in Wyoming. Elenor.
