White Sangria FAQs

What’s the history of sangria?

Sangria dates back over 2,000 years to Roman times, when wine was added to unsafe water to kill bacteria. The name comes from sangre, meaning blood, for its color. While Spain has no standard recipe, traditional versions are simple, often made with red wine and soda. The fruity versions we know today, like mango citrus berry white sangria, are more popular with tourists than locals. It likely made its United States debut at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.

What type of white wine should I use?

A dry or semi-dry white like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc works well.
