Agave nectar makes a good sweetener, although you can use any kind of liquid sugar or sweetener you like. Don’t use granular sugar; you do need to use something in liquid form. Watermelon rum also goes into the mix to add more wonderful fruity flavour to this White Claw recipe.

How to Make this Slush Cocktail

The first thing to do when making a strawberry watermelon rum White Claw slushie is to gather your ingredients together and make sure you have everything you need. Next pour the White Claw into an ice cube tray (I like silicone) and freeze.

If you’re using fresh fruit, you will also need to put that in the freezer with the White Claw. Give it about 4 hours to fully freeze.

To freeze your own fruit, chop the watermelon into chunks and arrange those chunks with the strawberries on a foil-lined platter. Don’t let the pieces touch.

Next put the frozen White Claw, frozen fruit, rum, and agave nectar to a blender and purée until smooth. Stop a few times and use a tamper or spatula to scrape down the sides of the blender to make sure everything is well mixed. Because everything is already frozen, you don’t need to add any ice to the White Claw mixed drink.

Serve right away, garnished with whichever suggested garnishes you want. If you have some strawberry popsicles, you could even pop one inside the drink! If you make this slush cocktail ahead or you have some of the mixture left over, you can always mix it and re-freeze it. You could even freeze it in popsicle molds for some adults-only popsicles!

Total Time: 4 hours 4 minutes

  • Cups strawberries, frozen, about 6-ounces
  • Cups watermelon, frozen, about 6-ounces
  • 1 Can White Claw, Watermelon, 12-ounce Can
  • 3 Ounces agave nectar
  • 3 Ounces rum, watermelon-flavoured, such as Malibu Watermelon
  • Wedges watermelon, Optional garnish
  • strawberries, Optional garnish
  • Sprigs mint, Optional garnish

Instructions

  • Pour the entire can of White Claw into an ice cube tray.** Freeze for 4 hours, or until completely frozen.

Notes

These White Claw Slushies are best when served immediately, however, they can be mixed, frozen, and re-blended. You may even consider pouring them into popsicle molds before freezing!
*Frozen strawberries are readily available in grocery stores; however, frozen watermelon chunks can be more difficult to come by. To freeze your own strawberries and/or watermelon chunks, line up the fruit on a foil-lined baking sheet so that the pieces are not touching, then freeze until hard, overnight.
**I used a silicone ice cube mold like this one which has compartments for 15 (1.25-inch) cubes. The contents of the 12-ounce can fit perfectly in the mold.
***When blending thick frozen beverages, I use a tamper, which came with my blender, to assure that everything gets incorporated evenly. If you don’t have a tamper, make sure you stop the blender to get those ice chunks down toward the blade with a mixing spoon, or other long utensil.
