Freeze them: Freeze on a parchment paper lined baking sheet for half an hour.

Freeze them again: Freeze for an hour (or until set) before serving.

Substitutions and Variations

Pear version: Using pears instead of apples would also work (or another fruit, as long as it’s firm).
Another nut: Not keen on peanuts or looking for a peanut-free recipe? Use chopped pecans, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, or mixed nuts.
Different sauce: Caramel apples are always good but feel free to swap the caramel sauce for any other kind (I love this espresso chocolate sauce!)
Chocolate chips: Melted white chocolate chips, bittersweet chocolate chips, semisweet chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips – any of these will be good.
More toppings: There are lots of various toppings you can add too – mini marshmallows, a contrasting color drizzle or colorful sprinkles are just some ideas. These treats on lollipop sticks can be personalized however you want.

Serve the apple slices with homemade pumpkin spice latte ice cream or cinnamon bourbon peach ice cream.

How to Store Chocolate Dipped Apple Pops

Store: Once set, you can keep the apple pops in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Freeze: You can keep them frozen if you prefer. If so, they need to be in a freezer-safe container or Ziploc bag to keep the air out.

Top Tips

Slicing the apples: You will get 3 or 4 slices from each apple. They need to be thick enough to hold the popsicle stick, so aim for at least ½-inch thick slices.
Try other toppings: Crushed Oreos, white chocolate drizzle and crushed toffee bits are just some ideas.
Adding a drizzle: It’s easiest if you hold the apple pop over the melted chocolate and drizzle the chocolate over both sides using a spoon.

Chocolate Covered Apple Lollipops FAQs

What variety of apples is best for making chocolate apple pops?

You can use something tart such as Granny Smiths or a sweeter apple like Jonagold or Golden Delicious.

Why did the chocolate change color?

When chocolate is exposed to the air it oxidizes over time and might get lighter or show white patches. This is perfectly normal and the apple pops are still fine to eat.

Which popsicle sticks are best for this recipe?

Since the apple slices are quite thin, it’s easier to use wide, flat popsicle sticks (I used these!) instead of the thicker ones that are more round.

Chocolate apple pops with wooden sticks feature apple slices drenched in rich chocolate and sprinkled with chopped nuts, all elegantly arranged among whole apples.
