Thanksgiving Punch Ingredients

Fruit is the star of this cranberry orange prosecco punch, namely fresh oranges, lemon and cranberries. Cranberry juice cocktail, orange juice, lemon juice, grenadine, and ice also go into the mix.

And then you have prosecco as well as edible fall flowers (although those are optional and you can decorate the holiday punch with a slice of orange and/or some cranberries if you prefer).

Cranberry cocktail brands differ and some are sweeter than others. Also, if you can’t find it and you can only get cranberry juice, that can be tart.

What this means is you might have to tweak the amount of grenadine, since that is a very sweet ingredient. Add it last so you can make sure the cranberry orange prosecco punch tastes just right.

How to Make this Festive Drink

You’ll be pleased to know it’s easy to prepare this fall or Thanksgiving cocktail. Gather all the ingredients and then put orange slices, lemon slices and cranberries in a pitcher.

Add the orange juice, grenadine, cranberry juice cocktail, lemon juice, and prosecco to the pitcher and gently give it a stir. Pour the prosecco in slowly else it will foam up and spill over!

Add an orange or lemon slice to each serving glass and some fresh cranberries. Add ice too. Pour the Thanksgiving punch over the ice and add more garnishes if you want, such as edible chrysanthemums or more citrus slices.

A Closer Look at Prosecco

What exactly is prosecco anyway? It’s not champagne, cava or plain sparkling wine. Prosecco is a type of sparkling wine from Italy that ranges from sweet to dry. You will find non-sparkling prosecco varieties in Italy too, but those aren’t so well known outside the country.

Although it shares similarities with champagne and cava, it’s named for the region it comes from, just like how only champagne produced in France’s champagne region can call itself that. Or the way parma ham can only be called that if it’s made in Italy’s Parma region.

While champagne can be made with chardonnay, pinot meunier and/or pinot noir, prosecco uses the glera grape, resulting in a different flavour. Also, while champagne gets yeast put in the bottles, prosecco has it added to the tanks prior to bottling. The two will taste different in the finished Thanksgiving punch, but champagne or cava (sparkling wine from Spain) would also work perfectly, if one of those is your preference.

The best prosecco for this cranberry orange prosecco punch would be a dry type, since the fruit already adds sweetness to this festive drink and you don’t want your fall or Thanksgiving cocktail to be too sweet.

Prosecco Cranberry Punch FAQs

Can you make this holiday punch ahead?

Yes you can. Actually you can make it up to 3 days in advance, as long as you don’t add the sliced fruit or prosecco until right before you serve it.

Is there an alcohol-free version?

Prefer not to have alcohol? Simply use alcohol-free sparkling white wine instead. You could also use sparkling white grape juice or ginger ale but those tend to be sweet so you’ll need much less grenadine.

Now if, on the other hand, you want more alcohol (hey, who’s judging, it’s Thanksgiving!) throw in ¾ cup of vodka or gin too!
