Lucky Charms Rice Krispies Treats Ingredients
A complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below
Lucky Charms cereal: This cereal is perfect because you get all the crunch you need along with the sweetness and texture but also those lucky charms which are colorful and fun. You can sub another cereal if you want to add your own lucky charms candies or dehydrated marshmallows (here), or opt for a generic grocery store version.
Marshmallows: A combination of white marshmallows and colored marshmallows (special Lucky Charms marshmallows (here) are cute) is best for these Lucky Charms Rice Krispie treats because that’s the most colorful option. Use white only or colorful only if you want.
Butter: This adds a rich taste to the Lucky Charms treats and helps hold the bars together when it cools. Salted or unsalted butter is fine.

Substitutions and Variations
Gluten free option: If you want a gluten free version of Lucky Charms treats, make sure you choose marshmallows made with corn starch instead of wheat flour. Lucky Charms cereal and butter are both gluten free.
Different cereal mixture: Not a Lucky Charms fan? Use any other breakfast cereal you prefer and add in some candy charms or colorful candies of your choice instead.
Add-ins galore: The charm of this recipe is you can throw anything you want in there as an add-in. Possibilities include M&Ms, skittles, peanuts or pistachios, chopped chocolate, and dried fruit.
Serving Suggestions
Main dishes: If you’re making these as part of a St Patrick’s Day feast, consider other Irish dishes too such as potato, cabbage, corned beef, and onion tacos (this fusion dish really is amazing!) or any of these unusual recipes with Guinness. Or come out of left field with something unexpected on the buffet table like homemade egg rolls! And yes, you can fill them with corned beef and cabbage!
More sweet treats: Celebrate St Patrick’s Day properly by also whipping up chocolate pistachio eclairs or St Patrick’s Day cookies with dip.
Drinks: It’s St Patrick’s Day so you might like to try something special like a green Irish whisky cocktail or pot o’gold jello vodka shots for luck!
How to Store Lucky Charms Rice Krispies Treats
Store: Keep the Lucky Charms Rice Krispie treats in an airtight container and they should last for up to 4 days.
Freeze: These Lucky Charms cereal treats are freezer-friendly but they’ll start to lose their flavor and texture after 6 weeks so don’t freeze them for too long.
Thaw: They will thaw just fine on the countertop overnight. Cover them up so the leprechauns don’t come in and help themselves!
Top Tips
Marshmallow mixture: If you can’t find colored marshmallows, you can just use the white ones. You will want some in the bars that are melted and some still fluffy and not melted, so add some early and some later on.
Get an even layer: Once you’ve pressed the melted marshmallows mixture into the baking dish, press a greased piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap on top so you can get your homemade Lucky Charms treats nice and even.
Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats FAQs

It’s fair to say not everyone has a sweet tooth but these Lucky Charms Rice Krispie treats are aimed at those who do! You can always cut these St Patrick’s Day or Easter treats into smaller pieces!
You can use either one. Salted butter does add a nice contrast to the strong sweetness though, so if you’re using unsalted you might want to add a pinch of salt to get the same effect.
