What is Chambord?

This ingredient might not be something you know or have in the cupboard. What is Chambord exactly? Well, it’s a sweet, fruity, rich-tasting liqueur with raspberry and citrus flavours. If you don’t have it, you can sub crème de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur) or raspberry juice.

Bitters are an ingredient you add to cocktails to add flavour, rather than something you drink by itself. Bitters are a mixture of spices and herbs in an alcoholic base.

How to Choose the Freshest Raspberries

Whether raspberries are in season or not, it pays to know how to select the best. They are a key component in this easy bourbon drink recipe. Choose firm, fully ripe and plump berries. If you’re picking your own, avoid any that aren’t completely ripe yet.

Some berries (like strawberries) can be picked under-ripe then ripened after, but not raspberries. They don’t ripen more after being picked. Pull on a raspberry gently and if it’s ripe it will easily come off the bush. Fresh raspberries keep for a few days in the refrigerator. You will be able to see when they need using up.

Notes

Muddling is the act of mashing ingredients (usually fruit is involved) to break them down and release their essence, enhancing the flavors. If you do not have a muddler you can also use the bottom of a wooden serving spoon or similar.

Instead of the sparkling water, you can also substitute club soda or flavored sparkling water (raspberry for example)!
